One of the most common complaints
from online daters is that people misrepresent themselves. Well now there’s a
dating website that ensures you’ll get exactly what you ordered online.
Targeted at busy professionals who want to “avoid dates that are after you for
your money” and who want to “make sure that those you meet are truly who they
say they are” Eligon.ca claims to be “the first – and only - online dating
websites in Canada offering members security initiatives.” Applicants must
supply a resume, sign a legal agreement stating information is true and must
consent to ID verification and an ID report from a credit agency. What’s next,
an eye scan -- or maybe a scan of something a little lower -- to prove who you
are?
It’s not just users of dating sites that misrepresent themselves. Sometimes Dating Sites themselves are misleading too. According to New York’s Daily News a man from Brooklyn recently filed a $5 million federal lawsuit against Match.com, an internet dating website, claiming it is leading on its members by not removing remove members who are no longer active. The claim? Finding someone on the site who is attractive and has potential as a possible mate and then making contact only to never hear back can leave members feeling needlessly rejected, their confidence bruised. Heck, if I had $5 million dollars for every time that happened in the offline dating world, I’d be a bazillionaire!
Want a more successful online dating experience that doesn’t end up in the courts? Take some advice from SpeedDate.com. In the site’s campaign to help you “snag a summer cutie” they offer some easy profile red flags that should signal you to stop, or give you the green light to move right ahead.
The Username
They say a lot about a person. When you think you’ve come across a winner, make
sure to double-check what the person calls themselves. If someone uses a username
like “player” or “SexyDiva,” they probably are!
The Profile Photo? You most certainly can judge a book by its cover. If you come across a
photo that is funny, not a real person or completely blank, finding a summer
relationship is most likely the last thing on their to-do list.
The Profile Blanks? No answer means they don’t want to tell. If there’s a blank next to
“relationship status,” that’s you’re signal to move on to the next date. If
someone is really looking for summer lovin’ and they can’t admit there single,
chances are, they aren’t.
