Here's a TIFF story straight from a press release from E1...
We have a great story to share – tonight was the World Premiere of film, MICMACS at Roy Thomson Hall – little did we know we would witness a TIFF dream come true!
Director, Jean-Pierre Jeunet and actor, Dany Boon were in attendance. As all the media lined up awaiting their arrival, a security personal comes over to let us know that there was a 14 year old boy from Columbia, Jose Canargo who arrived at 2:30pm this afternoon to await Mr. Jeunet’s arrival.
Keanu Reeve’s red carpet was earlier – as the crowds dispersed, Jose made his way to the front of the bearer and held his post.
He flew in from Columbia knowing this may be his only chance to get up close and personal with one of his idols. He knows everything there is to know about this director. He was wearing a suit two sizes too big for him to make sure he was presentable to the director.
Standing there for over five hours with a pen in hand, we couldn’t resist and invited him onto the red carpet to meet both talents. Running to make sure it was ok with his mother, he joined us, shaking but over the moon that his moment was here.
The flashes went crazy, as the two met. He told him how much his best friend, a female 15 year old loves Mr. Jeunet so he couldn’t leave without a photograph for her. Jeunet invited him to walk the line with him. During a conversation with the official theatre TIFF camera, Jeunet made a deal to put him in his next picture.
To be there and witness this boy’s dream coming true is truly the heart of what this festival means.
