Q. I have been working with a realtor to assist me in selling my house. Perhaps I was being too optimistic but the home is not moving and there is very little interest in the property. I have dropped the offering price but it still isn’t resulting in an increase in interest. I feel my real estate agent has not been behind me and I want to move to someone else I have met who assures me that they can sell my house. What are my rights and obligations?
A. Presumably, you signed a listing agreement with your realtor that sets out the terms and conditions of your agreement with him/her and their underlying broker.
You should read this paperwork carefully because you may be locked into an exclusive listing agreement that prohibits you from turning to someone else for assistance until the agreement has run its’ course. Alternatively, you can agree to disagree with your realtor and you sign a mutual release for the listing agreement.
