The only thing that currently angers Torontonians more than its mayor, according to a new Toronto Star/Angus Reid poll, are the city’s two striking unions.
The unflattering results, which include a plummeting approval rating for Mayor David Miller, come as the city workers’ strike enters its 19th day and the drifts of trash lining city streets grow both taller and more putrid.
It also comes as tensions in this strike-weary city strain, over everything from illegal dumping to local residents complaining about temporary dump sites. On Thursday, a judge ordered striking CUPE workers to stop obstructing a private contractor’s waste collection, although they will be allowed to picket outside.
But even though a full 67 per cent of those polled disapproved of Miller’s handling of the strike, that number was eclipsed by Toronto’s weeks-old, unabated wrath for the striking unions, which stood Thursday at 76 per cent.
