Imagine the person standing in front of you in line at the coffee shop turning around and handing you the coffee they’ve just bought. It’s a tiny act of kindness, but one that would surely brighten your day.
Well, that’s exactly what’s expected to happen tomorrow at various Second Cup cafés across Ontario during Pay It Backward Day — a one-day event that aims to raise $10,000 for the SickKids Foundation through these simple acts of coffee kindness.
For every person that buys a coffee for the person behind them in line today at participating Second Cups, $5 will be donated to Toronto’s SickKids Hospital, one of the world’s most respected children’s hospitals.
Darius Bashar, president and co-founder of Daily Challenge, the Toronto-based social networking site that organized the event, says they are hoping to inspire at least 3,000 acts of kindness in order to raise $15,000 for SickKids. He explains that at the last Pay It Backward Day, 602 Torontonians took part in the simple act of kindness. “This time around our event will be significantly bigger and better,” he adds.
The goal of Bashar’s website, which calls itself The Social Network for Do Gooders, is to inspire people to create positive change through simple daily acts of kindness.
