GTA health-care organizations swept five of six top health-care awards yesterday at an annual health care expo, Celebrating Innovations in Health Care, which is hosted by the Ontario government.
More than 200 health-care experts from across the province were considered for this year’s awards, which were presented by Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Deb Matthews.
St. Michael’s Hospital was recognized for its prenatal “passport” program called My Baby and Me: Infant Passport for Young Pregnant Homeless Women, which helps homeless and marginally-housed young women by providing education and support throughout their pregnancy. St. Michael’s was also awarded for creating its corporate patient flow team, which is responsible for holistically monitoring and improving patient flow.
Mount Sinai Hospital was recognized for its Innovation in Real-Time Reporting of Utilization and Performance in the Emergency Department program, which allows for minute-by-minute patient monitoring and tracking.
The Registered Nurses Association of Ontario received an award for its three-year government-funded program called Strategies to Support Long-Term Care Staff in the Uptake of Best Practices, which enhances quality of care for long-term care residents.
Rouge Valley Health Systems received recognition for its Neonatal and Pediatric Orientation Program designed for new graduates. Using lectures, videos, lab practice and clinical mentorship, the program helps new graduates acquire practical experience.
