Limit on parking also in force if TTC goes on
Extra bike lanes, parking restrictions on major thoroughfares, and lanes reserved for cars with three or more passengers will all come into play if transit workers walk out next week.
As part of the contingency plan for a transit strike, city council has also decided to suspend special exemptions for disabled parking permit holders on major routes during the stoppage. As well, drivers will be able to pick up or let off passengers at transit stops without penalty.
The measures were part of a package approved by council earlier this month. Here’s what happens for the duration of a transit strike:
Parking will be banned on certain roads and the parking enforcement unit will enforce “aggressive” tagging and towing of vehicles violating parking and stopping rules.
For cyclists, the curb lane on Bay Street from Queen’s Quay to Yorkville will become a bike-only lane for the duration of a strike. So will the curb lanes on Queen’s Quay from Lower Spadina Avenue to Yonge Street, and Dundas Street East from River Street to Broadview Avenue.
