Online dating is like fishing and your profile is the bait. You throw your profile out into the massive ocean called the Internet and wait for someone to take your bait.
That’s the way Cat Ratusny, producer of the play Love, Virtually, describes it.
Love, Virtually delves into the ins and outs of online dating with a comedic spin.
“I would definitely call it rom-com or sentimental comedy, because there’s a poignant love story but also a lot of burst-out-laughing moments,” she said. “It’s a little bit Sex And The City in a coffee shop.”
The coffee shop is the setting where all the drama and comedy takes place. To extend the set onstage throughout the entire theatre, early-comers will get a free coffee so they can watch the show as if they’re sitting in a café witnessing these blind dates.
“We wanted to create a fun environment and just connect,” said Ratusny.
But why does it take place in a coffee shop?
“If you don’t connect with the person, you haven’t invested that much time or money,” said Chloë Whitehorn, the playwright.
