One of the Halifax Rainmen’s most frequent opponents has been kicked out of the Premier Basketball League.

The PBL sent out a press release yesterday stating that the Montreal Sasquatch had its membership rights terminated for failing to meet “minimum requirements.” It added that the PBL “will not tolerate players not being paid.” The PBL is still interested in having a team in Montreal, and will entertain applications from other owners.

The Rainmen had two more games scheduled with the Sasquatch, on the road on Feb. 27 and at home on March 28. The Rainmen will play other teams on those dates.

Rainmen owner Andre Levingston supported the decision and dismissed comparisons to the antics that led him to drop out of the American Basketball Association last March.

“If there’s a team that has chosen to do something other than (follow the PBL’s mandate), quite frankly, as an owner, I don’t want them in the league,” he said.

Levingston said in the ABA, there “wasn’t a mandate, period,” and called it a “totally different situation.”
