Every face is a portrait for makeup artist Yasiv Marin.
The 27-year-old has been working as a makeup artist in Vancouver for five years.
“I have always been passionate about art,” she explained.
“Applying makeup was something I started discovering in my early teens and I learned it very quickly all on my own.
“For me, it was the fact that makeup brightens up and beautifies any face — the endless and amazing colours, the softer and stronger applications, the different tools and techniques — everything about makeup intrigued me,” she said.
Unsure of how to build a career, she enrolled in a diploma program at Blanche Macdonald Centre.
With the support of her teachers, she decided to begin her career with volunteer work in order to build a portfolio and gain valuable experience.
On a typical day, she travels to and from the homes of clients as they prepare for the best day of their lives, whether it is a wedding or graduation.
Even the most beautiful of women such as models rely on the services of Marin to enhance their best features.
Her most important advice for others aspiring a career in makeup artistry is to get as much exposure as possible.
“Get out there, take a good makeup program and then work hard to expose and really promote yourself. Don’t be shy, lazy, or quiet,” she advised.
Marin is positive about the career outlook, for she said there is a heavy demand by brides-to-be, graduates and models eager to launch that signature look.
“This industry is continuously growing because people are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of their personal presentation,” she said.
“And that’s wonderful because I love making them look and feel good about themselves.”
