Holt Renfrew’s annual Arts Umbrella Fashion Gala is always one of the most coveted tickets of the year. This time, the event was held in the company’s new $30-million flagship store and featured fashions by Diane von Furstenberg and performances by Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo.

Stars like Steven Seagal, who is in town to shoot a digital feature called Ruslan, stopped by. All proceeds support Arts Umbrella, Canada’s centre for arts education.

Meanwhile, local actors and VIPs were featured at the first annual World Red Cross Celebrity Soiree at Yaletown’s Blue Water Cafe. May 8 marked the day as all 186 national societies honoured the Red Cross movement and the humanitarian efforts in local markets. Fabulous food, and interviews with the featured guests, helped raise money local programs, disaster response, first aid and humanitarian issues.
