Musqueam Chief Ernest Campbell said he is disappointed that a pavilion showcasing aboriginal art and culture during the 2010 Games is temporary and not a permanent structure in Vancouver.
“The initial plan was a permanent building,” said Campbell following the unveiling of the 2010 Aboriginal Pavilion yesterday morning.
“It would have been good recognition to have a lasting legacy ongoing after 2010,” added Campbell, who estimates a permanent facility would have cost $20 million.
The $3.5-million pavilion will be located within the Queen Elizabeth Theatre plaza, across Cambie Street from one of the live celebration sites planned for Vancouver.
The 8,000-square foot plaza will centre around a 20-metre high inflated sphere and will promote aboriginal culture, art, business and sport.

A lasting legacy?
