Around 100 people braved the Wreck Beach stairs and stripped down altogether yesterday for a cheeky five-kilometre fundraising run through the sand.

For 13 years, the annual Bare Buns Run/Walk has been raising money to preserve Wreck Beach in as natural a state as possible, said organizer Judy Williams.

“The premise is to celebrate our bodies and to show the clothed world that naturism is a healthy, fun lifestyle and we don’t try to hide our bodies,” Williams said.

Iva Fisher was participating in the event for the second time, and said she joined with her Running Room team.

“I don’t have a problem with (running topless) because I’ve been coming here for years and years,” Fisher said. “I don’t notice it anymore. It’s totally natural.”

She added that being naked in as beautiful and natural a setting as Wreck Beach made her feel at ease and more connected to nature.

Al Clark has been driving to Vancouver from Seattle to participate in the Bare Buns event for 10 years.

“I meet certain friends I only see once a year (here),” he said, adding that despite what you’d think, running naked as a man is not uncomfortable.

“I hear some of the gals have difficulties. But as a guy, it’s OK.”
