More than half a million people lined up downtown streets for Sunday’s Vancouver Pride Parade, according to organizers.
Ken Coolen, president of the Vancouver Pride Society, said the event was a boon for local tourism.
“Say we had (at least) half a million people and say each of those people spent $5 — that’s $2.5 million and $5 is barely enough for a hot dog and a bottle of water,” Coolen said.
When cab and bus fare, restaurant visits, and hotel room rentals are taken into consideration, Coolen estimated that $10 million were contributed to downtown businesses.
