A man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after he was shot in the torso by a Mountie in Deep Cove, Vancouver police said yesterday.
The 39-year-old North Vancouver man, who is known to police, was taken into custody Saturday afternoon following the shooting, said Vancouver Const. Lindsey Houghton.
The Vancouver Police Department’s major crime section is investigating the police-involved shooting portion of the incident at the request of the RCMP, said Sgt. Peter Thiessen, a spokesman for the RCMP.
The incident began at 2:30 p.m., when an RCMP officer responded to a 911 complaint about a vehicle on Mount Seymour Parkway. According to media reports, the car had struck several vehicles.
The officer, a four-year member of the RCMP, pulled the vehicle over at Deep Cove Drive and Strathcona Road.
The man got out of his car, but refused to comply with the officer’s commands. The Mountie then shot the man in his torso.
The officer was not injured during the incident.
Houghton also said the officer was not armed with a Taser.
