Tomorrow Vancouver will become home to the biggest H&M store in Canada.

The long-awaited downtown launch of the popular Swedish brand, which is likened to the Ikea of clothing stores, is expected to draw thousands of shoppers when doors open at Pacific Centre at noon.

When H&M opened its first British Columbia store at Coquitlam Centre last summer it attracted 800 shoppers in the first hour.

Tomorrow’s opening is expected to draw similar crowds.

Laura Shankland, with H&M Canada, said the 28,000-square-foot, two-storey shop is like a mini department store and because it’s so affordable it’s “guiltless shopping.”

“The summer’s all about exotic, tropical prints, bright colours inspired by Africa and Hawaii. Ethnic jewelry, lots of bangles and embellishments.”

Shankland said the Vancouver store will be unlike other H&Ms because it will offer the highest level of fashion content for adults, which is “more suitable to big city, downtown stores.”
