Vancouver police are looking for a woman who may have been the victim of a kidnapping after witnesses heard someone screaming in the back of a van in the Downtown Eastside.

Police were called to the 600 block of East Pender Street on Tuesday evening after people heard a woman screaming for help from a turquoise minivan.

“A quick-thinking witness wrote down the licence plate number and gave it to police,” said Const. Jana McGuinness.

“The licence plate information was broadcast to neighbouring police agencies and Surrey RCMP found the vehicle around 11 p.m.”

The driver was taken in for questioning but the woman has not been found.

“All attempts to identify and locate the woman to confirm her well-being have been unsuccessful,” said McGuinness.

Anyone with information about the missing woman is asked to call 604-717-2538 or Crime Stoppers.
