With pride week approaching, New Democrat MLAs called yesterday for a number of anti-homophobia actions, including greater public education and the establishment of a tip line to report gay bashing.

“For too long, we’ve seen violence increase in our community and people get victimized when they shouldn’t,” said West End MLA Spencer Chandra Herbert, who was joined at the press conference by public safety critic Mike Farnworth.

Other actions are to ensure Crown prosecutors are aware of hate crime provisions, having a community safety worker to support victims and having more police officers on the beat in Davie Village during the summer.
