A pair of popular events brought in for the 100th edition of the Fair at PNE — including a Macy’s-style parade through the West End — will likely be dropped next season.
Laura Ballance, a spokeswoman for the PNE, said there are no plans to bring back the parade — a Vancouver tradition that was scrapped 15 years ago, but revived for the centennial.
The parade was possible this year because of a federal “marquee event” tourism grant.
This season’s big opening-night concert also may not be repeated next year, since the temporary stadium that housed it may not still be standing.
Empire Fields is slotted for teardown with the re-opening of B.C. Place, which could be as early as July.
“It was unbelievable,” said Ballance, of the Bryan Adams and Beach Boys concert that opened this year’s fair.
“The excitement on the site, the excitement in the crowd in that stadium and the excitement of the performers was unsurpassed.”
