Besnard Lakes
Album: The Besnard Lakes are the Roaring Night
Label: Jagjaguwar/Sonic Unyon
Rating: ****

If you liked the Besnard Lakes’ last masterpiece, you’ll love their new one. Like …Are The Dark Horse, this third effort is another expansive, droney, harmony-filled affair. The band’s lush, Beach Boys-like vocals are out in full force — Albatross is a gorgeous track that sounds more like a journey through the history of sound than a stand-alone song, while Land of the Living Skies Pt. 2 is what Pink Floyd could sound like if they started making music today.  It’s a heavy, time-consuming listen, but well worth the effort.
