The White Stripes
Album: Under Great White Northern Lights

Rating: ****
If Canadians need another reason to feel pride post-Olympics, they should pick up The White Strips’ new DVD/CD chronicling the group’s extensive 2007 Canadian tour. The CD, which can be bought separately, is where the musical meat resides. This disc is amazing to listen to — Jack White gives a shout out to Yellowknife, brings up his cousin on a Cape Breton stage during the song Prickly Thorn, but Sweetly Worn to play bagpipes — and it’s a treat simply to know this was recorded on Canadian soil. The disc covers the Stripes’ entire catalogue, and they do it well, with all their gritty, intense rock on full display.
