Abeltshauser agrees to terms with Sharks on three-year contract

The San Jose Sharks have agreed to terms on a three-year entry-level contract with Halifax Mooseheads defenceman Konrad Abeltshauser, Metro Halifax has learned.

The 19-year-old Abeltshauser, named the Mooseheads' top defenceman this season, had eight goals and 36 assists for 44 points in 57 games along with a team-best plus-17 rating.

The deal is worth $1.675 million over three seasons at the NHL level and contains $225,000 in signing bonuses, according to a source. He could also earn more bonuses for games played. It will pay him $55,000 at the minor-league level in 2012-13.

Abeltshauser, who the Sharks selected 163rd overall in the 2010 NHL draft, is expected to vie for a spot with the American Hockey League's Worcester Sharks next season.
