Terroir fine foods. That’s the tag line on the window outside 42 Crichton Street Fine Foods. Inside, you’ll find a small space dedicated to quality, local food.

If you’re lucky, the cushion-covered radiator will be free to sit on and enjoy your lunch choice (or you can take it to a picnic table at Stanley Park down the road).

Chef Susan Jessup graciously shares her passion for local and sustainable fresh foods, sourcing ingredients from Quebec, Ontario and even Alberta. You won’t find the typical sandwich or panini lunch here.

The ridiculously good savoury strudel was filled with seared O’Brien Farm’s rib-eye steak, shiitake mushrooms, organic potatoes, leeks, baby spinach, sweet onions, herbs and reduced red wine from Niagara. It was a winning combination. The plate was garnished with chunks of salted cucumber and a rustic radish.

My friend had the vegetarian flat bread with tomatoes, cilantro, onions and local chèvre that was equally tasty and worthy of a revisit.

42 Crichton Street Fine Food is mighty fine, but shhh ... let’s keep it a secret.
