What you notice first when walking through the door at Fleur Tea House is the guitar waiting to be played. The promise of live music on a future visit gave me hope in this quaint tea shop tucked into Sandy Hill.

Since it’s a tea house, I ordered an iced chai tea latte ($4.51). Not too sweet, it was a perfect blend of spice with hints of cardamom and ginger.

The lunch selections were limited to a handful of panini or a Greek salad. I chose the Italian panini, where spicy deli meat slices were sandwiched between olive bread from Art-is-in-Bread. The lettuce was still crispy and hadn’t been wilted under the panini press. But the combination was ho-hum.

For dessert, a slice of New York-style cheesecake with cherry topping looked hopeful. But it tasted like cherries-from-a-can-store-made dull.

Fleur Tea House offers a lovely tea experience, but the food needs to be tuned up, like that lonely guitar longing to be played.
