Beautiful. Historic. Epic. Greece.
For those of us not fortunate enough to visit this lovely nation, we can still taste the charms of Hellas at Homer's Restaurant and Catering.
Greek owned for more than 30 years, Homer's celebrates the country through its architecture and traditional cuisine.
The Sampler ($13.95), a dish of souvlaki, spanakopita, citrus avgolemono soup, and lemon kissed potatoes, was a good Aegean beginning.
The Moussaka ($12.95), with its layers of perfectly cooked eggplant, zucchini, and meat had the right amount of cinnamon to add interest. The flaky Spanakopita ($11.95) in all its spinach glory would have made Agamemnon ravenous, but I would have liked a little bit more feta in the filling.
To conclude my Homeric dining experience, I had the Baklava ($4.50), which was warm, flakey, full of aromatic nuts and cinnamon, and glossed with golden honey.
The meal at Homer's was so good it was worthy of Odysseus's return to Ithaca.
