When I heard Pizzeria Gusto had a wood burning pizza oven I thought, “Right. Just like the other so called wood burning pizza ovens in the city.”
Well, it actually does — you can see the logs burning from the dining room. So how was the pizza? Fantastic.
The crust was crisp, chewy, tender and had that great wood burning oven taste so common in Napolitalian pizzas.
I ordered the Napoletana ($17), which had the right combo of anchovies, capers and buffalo mozzarella. I also ordered the sautéed Calamari ($12), which was tender, spicy and came with a fresh arugula and shaved fennel salad.
What also impressed me is how far staff is willing to go for its patrons. My mom made an unusual request of the kitchen and they were more than happy to comply. In my books, when people are willing to go out of their way for you, they’re golden.
This restaurant has great food, great staff and is worth a visit.
